Crack the Sky is an American progressive rock band formed in Weirton, West Virginia in the mid-1970s. In 1975, Rolling Stone declared their first album “debut album of the year”, and in 1978, Rolling Stone Record Guide compared them to Steely Dan. The Beauty Of Nothing is the latest release from Crack The Sky, issued late in 2015. It signals a return of Crack The Sky to their earlier hard rock/prog sound. An editorial review states: “Not since the band’s incredibly popular White Music CD, has Crack The Sky delivered a collection of pop/rock songs that sting while making you smile. Satirical, smirky commentary, wrapped in up tempo  yes, you can dance to it  music. Writer, Palumbo, has either hit a manic phase or is attempting to get our attention via the back door. In any event, this remarkable band, once again, shows their ability to shift gears while keeping their artistic integrity intact.”

The band features original members John Palumbo (lead vocals/guitar), Rick Witkowski (guitar/vocals) & Joey D’Amico (drums/vocals) alongside tenured members Bobby Hird (guitar/vocals), Glenn Workman (keys/vocals) and Dave DeMarco (bass/vocals).

Orpheus Nine
http://www.orpheusnine.com

Orpheus Nine began as a solo project by Jason Kresge, whose onstage persona inspired one fan to dub him “prog’s Phantom of the Opera.” Envisioning eclectic, keyboard-driven music, Jason created pieces that served up piano, organ, and synthesizer as aggressive lead instruments. After a period of experimentation, he teamed up with drummer Daniel Nydick in 2005, and the two spent a few years further developing their style. The result: modern progressive rock with infusions of classical, jazz, metal, and electronica.

By 2011, the duo had expanded to include bassist Tony Renda and guitarist Matt Ullestad. This lineup enjoyed a brief run before scheduling conflicts forced a temporary hiatus. Daniel’s departure led to the 2012 arrival of drummer Mark DeGregory.

The New Jersey-based quartet emerges with a sonic treasure in Transcendental Circus. While the album’s centerpiece is its six-part, 22-minute title track, O9 has poured its soul into every song, deftly balancing technical virtuosity with emotion and melody. Early listeners to this “complex and clever” labor of love have cited elements of ELP, King Crimson, Genesis, Rush, Dream Theater, Saga, Frank Zappa, and Yes — yet any past influence quickly gives way to the fresh sound of a band focused on future possibilities.

Orpheus Nine is honored to celebrate the official release of Transcendental Circus with this special NJProghouse performance. We also plan to give attendees of our set a Transcendental Circus CD and a couple of other O9 swag items

Mavaraa
http://www.mavaraband.com/

Mavara, is Irans first premier progressive rock band. The name Mavara translates to beyond everything you think which speaks to the essence of their music. The band was formed in 2001 by composer/keyboardist Farhood Ghadiri and over the years has had a fluid line-up of members, performing extensively in Tehran and Karaj.

Currently Mavara is comprised of Ghadiri along with Ashkan Hamedi/vocals and Guitar, Sina Khodaiefer/bass, Anis Oveisi/keyboards and Jim Welch/Drums

Because of their unique sound and talent, Mavara quickly gained notoriety in Iran, receiving acclaim from the Tehran Industry and Science University as Best Rock Band at a Live Performance. Additional honors include an invitation to perform for the internet music festival, Teheran Avenue in both 2003 and 2005. Their music is best described in terms of their influences, with a generous helping of Pink Floyd, Porcupine Tree and Marillion being the first bands that come to mind. In other words, more on the melodic side of Progressive Rock.

Mavara began recording their first Persian language album, Ultimate Sound in 2003 which was released in 2005, and gained recognition in an article published on the website Zirzamin.se. Later in 2005, Mavara teamed up with the band Aavaar for a benefit show in Iran to promote the new album. It wasn’t long thereafter that the band began recording their first English language album, Forgotten Inside, which was released at a private concert in 2009. Among their first tour stops, was the Crescendo Music Festival in France during the summer of 2010. In 2013, Mavara released their epic third album Season of Salvation, on Transit Music Group Records [TMG] in the US and is currently touring and promoting the album here in the United States.

Since arriving in the American soil, the band has been the subject of television programs [NH Chronicle/ABC Television, Stir It Up on MCTV, etc], College radio live appearances [Tufts University, etal ] and countless magazine articles, The Hippo, The Union Leader etc, and most recently were featured in Spotlight Magazine where they graced the cover of the weekly magazine. Mavara was also invited to be one of 8 bands to perform at the prestigious “ProgDay Festival 2013” the longest running progressive rock festival in the world.

In 2015 Mavara started working on their 4th album called “Consciousness” this album is a concept album noting the 10-song album takes listeners on a journey from an ancient war in Iran in 636 Gregory calendar into the future of human beings, the whole album is about reincarnation of a soul in different bodies, Mavara will release this album in summer 2017.

Discipline
http://www.strungoutrecords.com/

“Discipline weaves a wicked web of lush, whimsical melodies, cynical stories and melancholy theatricsso disturbing some fans have pegged lead-man Matthew Parmenter as ‘unstable,'” writes Heidi Olmac in Detroit’s Orbit newspaper. New Zealand rock critic Kev Rowland describes Discipline as “one of the most important bands to come out of America in the last 25 years.” The American band Discipline has performed and recorded together since 1987. The band has just finished recording its fifth studio album with current members Paul Dzendzel (drums), Mathew Kennedy (bass guitar), Chris Herin (lead guitar), and Matthew Parmenter (vocals and keyboards).

The new Discipline album entitled “Captives of the Wine Dark Sea” will be released on the U.S. label Laser’s Edge. “We are thrilled to welcome Discipline into the Laser’s Edge family,” says Ken Golden, owner and CEO of Laser’s Edge records. “It was a long time coming, but the new Discipline album has definitely been worth the wait. This album demonstrates once again why Discipline is considered one of the finest U.S. bands.” Influences abound on the new release, which singer Matthew Parmenter describes as “an escape to ameliorate the workaday world.” Veteran music producer Terry Brown (Rush, Fate’s Warning) has mixed the new Discipline release. “Captives of the Wine Dark Sea” is scheduled for worldwide release in May 2017. Discipline’s earliest live shows were memorable for unusual theatrics. Parmenter (a.k.a. the Magic Acid Mime) would wear different costumes and act out the songs. Though the costumes have long since gone away, spontaneity remains a hallmark of Discipline’s stage presence. “I think most of it comes from playing live,” says Parmenter in The Observer and Eccentric newspaper. “If something goes wrong, it’s kind of interesting how you will get out of it.”

Discipline has appeared at numerous progressive rock festivals. In 2017 the band will perform at Italy’s 2Days Prog+1 festival September 2 and at Chicago’s Progtoberfest in October. The band drew praise at UK’s Summers End festival in 2015 with reviews declaring Discipline “the band of the weekend.” In 2012 Discipline appeared at RoSfest, the Rites of Spring progressive rock festival in Gettysburg, Pennsylvania. That performance can be viewed as an Amazon Instant video. In 2008 Discipline performed at NEARfest Northeast Art Rock Festival. Other festival appearances include Terra Incognita (Quebec Canada), ProgScape, Orion Studios(Baltimore, Maryland), and six separate performances at ProgDay (Chapel Hill, North Carolina).

Jeff Milo of Ferndale Friends newspaper writes, “Go online and you’ll find various zines, blogs, and sites devoted to ‘prog’ music sending some substantial love toward Detroit’s Discipline.”

The Galactic Cowboy Orchestra
http://www.galacticcowboyorchestra.com

The Galactic Cowboy Orchestra  has been freakin’ minds for 6 years! Since 2009, the band has stretched their own musical limits with album after album of intensely energetic ART-ROCK. Definition of ART-ROCK: A type of rock music, often with poetic lyrics, characterized by sophisticated harmonic, dynamic and technical complexity based on forms derived from classical (and jazz) music and requiring performers of considerable training and skill. It sounds so serious, but when you combine that type of music with four fun-loving musicians who don’t take themselves too seriously and who have a love of so much music beyond art-rock (which is why the band covers songs from Otis Rush’s All Your Love to Whipping Post to When the Levee Breaks to YYZ), you get a bit of magic in live music form. The band writes and performs music that excites them and has a blast doing it! The GCO appreciates and aspires to superior musicianship while combining their love of a good riff, hummable melody and groovy jam… over a jazz/jazz-rock musical bedrock. It all culminates in an intensely energetic live performance because “we freakin’ love what we do and love that the fans dig it too!! ”

What other bands do we sound like? We have been compared to King Crimson, Mahavishnu Orchestra, Dixie Dregs, Bela Fleck and the Flecktones.

NJ based The Tea Club launch Patreon campaign, offer unreleased rarities ..

July 14, 2017 by NJProghouse

from Joe Dorsey, Keyboardist for The Tea Club

We’re launching a Patreon campaign that gives all of you access to tons of unreleased Tea Club stuff. Listen to an unreleased song called “Planet Moon” (public) and watch a multi-camera angle performance of “I Shall Consume Everything” at Boot and Saddle (for Patrons). This is only scratching the surface of all the content we have prepared. Click the link below for a full description what we want to do for our supporters.

https://www.patreon.com/theteaclub/posts

The Tea Club is a band that has been cultivating unique ideas in the form of music and visual art for more than a decade. As we continue to release new material, a vast collection of unreleased work lies beneath the surface of the public eye. We want to share this repository with our supporters while also providing an exclusive look into what the band is currently creating. By supporting our Patreon campaign, you allow us to continue our pilgrimage.

The way it works is this: If you make a monthly donation of any amount to this Patreon account, you will gain access to a private page where we will release two tracks or videos from “The Archive” each month. You’ll also get some written background for each release, a monthly video clip providing an inside look into what the band is working on, early news on upcoming tours, records, videos, graphic novels and other press, discounts on merch, and access to new releases before anyone else, as well as a few surprises.

Some of the material we’ll be making available to our Patrons includes rare demos, live recordings, unreleased studio tracks, b-sides, live videos, unreleased music videos, and lots of concept art.

Goals:

Our main goal for 2017 is to record a new album with a release date in 2018. A major goal for 2018 is to professionally film and record a live in-studio concert highlighting music from the band’s entire discography. We’ve set a financial goal of $1,000 a month which would dramatically help make these plans become a reality! Your support makes these kinds of ideas possible!

Special Note, June 27th, 2017:

We are making our first post of July available to anyone who visits this page. This is the type of content we’ll be generating on a monthly basis for our Patrons! We hope you enjoy it!

No More Pain
http://www.facebook.com/posthumancondition
http://nomorepain.bandcamp.com

No More Pain is a four piece band from central New Jersey. They are concentrated as a true progressive rock arrangement with a grungy epicenter. The current lineup of the band consists of Michael Roman (Guitar/Vocals), Dan Rainone (Drums/Vocals), Matt McDermott (Keyboards/Vocals), and John Moroney (Bass). No More Pain employs virtuosic musicianship with songwriting to match. Their music can best be described as a mellow soundscape, followed by a direct kick to the face, and are still to this day: “The only band preferred by both God and Satan.” No More Pain stands on the thin line between rock and progressive, where hard hitting riffs and emotive vocals combine with complex harmony, rhythm, and thought provoking lyrics.

Valence
www.valence.band
www.facebook.com/valencemusic
www.valence.bandcamp.com

Frequently cited as the bees knees and the cats meow, Valence takes instrumental prog to new heights through their flirtations with modern metal and eclectic compositions. Theyre a breath of fresh air for anyone tired of music formulated to fit into a box, and longs for an unadulterated form of sonic expression. The band won an Independent Music Award for The Reckoning, off of their 2014 EP, Laser Baron, the follow up to their debut Sleepwalker. Sea of Tranquility wrote, If you love some of the acrobatic, complex, and heavy material of current acts like Scale the Summit, Between the Buried & Me, and Animals as Leaders, this is a band you need to check out. Metal Injection included Valence in their end of 2015 list 10 MORE Awesome Underground Bands You Need In Your Life!

Between the awards and rave reviews, the band has developed a reputation as a crushing force in the north east, tri-state and the southern New York music scenes, playing the official after-parties for Dream Theater, Clutch and The Sword as well as opening for acts such as Consider the Source, Stu Hamm, Felix Martin, The Fine Constant, and Angel Vivaldi.

Bassist WilHelmus.! joined the band in Spring 2016, adding new elements as the band finishes writing and preproduction for their next epic full length album. In the meantime, Valence is set to release their new single, He Tried To Kill Me With a Forklift, in August 2017 and a music video to shortly follow. Valence is Michael Buonanno (gtr), Geoffrey Schaefer (gtr), Chris Romano (drms) and WilHelmus.! (bass).
